Ram Sale Catalogue

LLEYN STOCK SIRES

Brave – this is the first crop from this proud ram from the Nelless family - Duncan said he was the best sheep he’d bred. We have been really impressed at his style and ‘do-ability’ - he packs a lot of weight into a compact frame! We liked the Dylan Jones-bred sire when he was a high-seller through Carlisle.

Brave breeds great Lleyn cosmetics and has enjoyed 2 Perth Show championships. He’s happier with his 100+ ewes though. Pictured above as 2 shear, and right as shearling.

Legend – This high EBV sire has 4 generations of top Incheoch ewes in his pedigree, all with high efficiencies and repeat twinning. His lambs are well shaped, tight skinned and weigh even heavier than they look. Daughters are excellent mothers – very attentive and calm natured – medium sized, but long and easily fleshed. With a trait-leading FEC EBV, we have every confidence that Legend is taking our flock in the right direction. Not many sons left from Legend, but there are 9 rams out of his daughters in the sale

Coll & Comrade – both by Balintore who was out of a ewe who did a great job in our Middleton flock. Both born to gimmers, daughters of top old ewes (see Lots 46 & 70). There is a lot of functional ewe genetics stacked in their pedigrees ...twinning, no assistance, good lambs to weaning, stayability….

They were sold as a pair at Working Genes’14. Comrade is pictured here.

Henry Hotspur – bred and used by the Nelless family, we bought this son of the Incheoch F77 ram (who has over 1000 recorded progeny) to bring in his high maternal, low mature size and positive fat genetics. His dam has reared 6 crops at Thistleyhaugh and Henry looks like he has plenty staying power.

A sturdy, robust ram, we have tended to use him over taller type ewes. Our first daughters lambed as gimmers this year, and their lambing behaviour really impressed. We’d especially recommend Hotspur rams for producing no-nonsense, outside lambed replacements.

Custer – son of Buzz, top price at WORKING GENES ’13, and grandson of Noah from Marcus Bullock, this is a high maternal, low birthweight and low ewe weight line. They have a little less power, but are very smart with great skins. Custer’s mother is a favourite young ewe who has done everything right so far...her mother is still here at 12yo with all her teeth and hasn’t made any mistakes yet!
